We are currently seeking a general assistant to assist our busy Estates Department. This position is in-office at our Chilliwack office and available immediately. This position could be suitable for Practicum Students or newly graduated Legal Administrative Assistants. Furthermore, while this is a position within a law firm, it may also be suitable for individuals with no legal experience, but with established general professional office experience. This position may also appeal to mature experienced legal assistants who may have left the legal industry for any amount of time, looking to re-establish themselves within a law firm.
An example of the main duties are, but may not be limited to:
• Prepare files for New Client Meetings (Authorizations, completion of Estate Info sheet, searches)
• Opening files (which includes preparing tables, notarial/cert copies, Notice to Creditors, Simple Inquiry letters etc.)
• Simple follow ups with banks/institutions including emails and phone calls requesting responses to our inquiry letters
• Prepare transmission to Executor property documents
• Payment of bills/deposit of cheques, letters for payment of Estate bills
• Filing
You would report most directly to a Senior Paralegal and other Legal Assistants, which provides an excellent and encouraging environment for continued training.
The successful candidate will be mature, have meticulous attention to detail, established writing and communication skills, the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, and possess very strong computer skills as we work in an ever-increasing paperless practice.
