Baker Newby is thrilled to celebrate a remarkable milestone: our very own Managing Partner, Cristen Gleeson, has been elected Chair of the Board of Governors at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).
Cristen becomes the 15th Chair in UFV’s history and only the third woman to hold this esteemed position, following in the footsteps of trailblazers Betty Meagher (1979–1982) and Phyllis Stenson (1999–2002).
The UFV Board of Governors oversees the university’s management, administration, and strategic direction, guiding the stewardship of its property, revenue, and operations. The board is made up of dedicated volunteers, including government appointees and elected representatives from UFV’s faculty, staff, and students, along with the university’s president and chancellor.
Beyond her legal expertise, Cristen brings a spirit of leadership and adventure to everything she does. A former university and international basketball player, she has fought forest fires from helicopters in Ontario and contributed to global outreach projects in Jamaica and Guatemala. Since joining Baker Newby in 2006, Cristen has continued to exemplify excellence and community leadership, becoming a Partner in 2010 and joining our management team in 2019.
Please join us in congratulating Cristen on this incredible achievement and her continued dedication to leadership, both in our community and beyond.
