Sam Varing is part of Baker Newby’s team of solicitors, and is growing her practice as a pragmatic, solution-driven lawyer for businesses and individuals throughout the Lower Mainland. Sam is passionate about business, real estate and commercial finance, and her varied practice stems from her passions.
Sam was born and raised in Abbotsford. Her roots stem from a family of entrepreneurs, where she has not only learned invaluable lessons about life and business but is lucky to have a bottomless supply of blueberries from the family farm. Prior to law school, Sam attended the University of the Fraser Valley where she completed her Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and communications. Sam also worked full-time locally at a major bank where she gained practical lending, investment and management experience. She then went on to Thompson Rivers University, Faculty of Law to complete her Juris Doctor degree in 2018. Sam completed her summer and full-time articles with Baker Newby and joined Baker Newby’s team of solicitors in 2019.
Once Sam completed law school, she knew that she wanted to return to the Fraser Valley and start working with local organizations to give back her time to local communities. Sam’s passion to educate our youth about financial and business literacy led her to continue her volunteering and fundraising for Junior Achievement of British Columbia.
Further, in March 2020, Sam was elected to the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors. Sam’s passion to support and grow local business is well aligned with the Abbotsford Chamber’s mandate to grow its relevance in Abbotsford’s business community. Sam also sits on the Government Affairs Committee with the Abbotsford Chamber and is an executive member of the Company of Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs in Abbotsford.
In her spare time, Sam enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, travelling, reading, staying active and visiting local coffee shops.
