Brent
Adair was born in Chilliwack, and after early schooling in the community
graduated from the Revelstoke Secondary School. Following a degree
in History from the University of Chicago in 1977, Mr. Adair attended
the Law Faculty at the University of Victoria. He articled with Baker
Newby LLP and was called to the bar in 1981.
After 20 years as a sole practitioner in the West Kootenays of British
Columbia, Mr. Adair returned to Baker Newby LLP
in 2001 as Associate Counsel. He brings extensive litigation experience
on a wide variety of practice areas, including family law and personal
injury law, as well as estate litigation and sexual abuse claims.
He has appeared regularly before the Provincial Court and the British
Columbia Supreme Court, and has successfully conducted appeals at
the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Adair has been an active member of the Kootenay Bar Association,
serving as President and Vice-President. He was also elected to represent
his county on the Canadian Bar Association for four years. He
was a member of its Board of Directors, for its Legal Services Society
for 6 years between 1997 and 2007, and was Chair of its Board for
18 months.
Mr. Adair was appointed Queen's Counsel in April, 2000.
The father of two grown children, Brent and his wife Teresa split
their time between their residences in Rossland and Chilliwack. Leisure
activities include hiking, camping and canoeing in the fair weather
months, and skiing in the winter. He is also an avid gardener, and
a keen student of French.
Mr. Adair's current practice areas include personal injury, estate
litigation, family law and civil litigation.
