Max
Newby was born in Chilliwack and grew up on a small farm in Sardis.
He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws Degrees
from UBC in the years 1966 and 1967 respectively. Upon his call to
the Bar after articling with Houghton Gray & Jensen in Kamloops,
Mr. Newby returned to Chilliwack and joined Hinds, Davies & Baker
(as our firm was then known). Mr. Newby became the Managing Partner
at Baker Newby LLP when William H. Davies was
appointed to the Bench in 1978. He held that position until
2004.
Mr.
Newby's preferred areas of practice include corporate law, tax motivated
transactions, farm related transactions, estate planning, wills
and estates. At least 50% of his clients are farmers.
Outside the office, Mr. Newby enjoys his family, farm and friends.
