Mr. Davies was born and attended school in Chilliwack. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1955, and articled with Frank Wilson (later Mr. Justice Wilson) of Wilson and Hinds, and was called to the bar in May 1956. He became a partner in the firm of Wilson, Hinds and Davies (eventually to become Baker Newby LLP) in 1957. He maintained a general practice for several years later focusing on litigation and municipal law.

Mr. Davies was active in community affairs as well as the legal community. Some of the office he held include:
1958 - 1961 Chairman, Chilliwack Civic Properties Commission
1963 President, Chilliwack Kinsmen Club
1966 President, Fraser Valley Bar Association
1968 - 1971 Chairman, Cultus Lake Park Board
1968 - 1975 Executive, Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch)
1976 - 1978 Executive, Canadian Bar Association
  National Chairman, Continuing Legal Education
1975 - 1978 Governor, Law Foundation of BC
1976 - 1981 Fraser Valley College Board
2002 Board of Directors, Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation

In 1977 he was awarded the Silver Jubilee Medal for his contribution to the community and to Canada.

Mr. Davies was reinstated to the Bar in November 2003, and joined Baker Newby LLP as Associate Counsel.  He was appointed Queen's Counsel in December 2005.
