Baker Newby LLP has a designated Collections
Department. Its members work on a systematized basis to ensure effective
swift and cost-effective recovery of debts owed. Our Collections Department
is equipped to collect any debt, whether it be by obtaining a Judgment
from the Supreme Court of British Columbia or the Small Claims Court.
Our knowledge and experience assists creditors in effectively recovering
monies owed.
Our collections lawyers aggressively advance creditors' interests
through the remedies available under the Court Order Enforcement Act.
These include garnishment of wages or debts, seizure and sale of property,
registrations of Judgment against land, and Examination of Debtors.
Persons
or companies in financial difficulty also will find assistance in
the knowledge and experience our collections lawyers have in the
working out of debts through arrangements with creditors and relief
under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
Some
members of our Collections Department also work in the commercial/construction
fields. This mix of experience allows for more knowledgeable approaches
to the particular insolvency problems of trades persons, suppliers,
sub-contractors and contractors as well as property owners. The
law governing builders liens is in continual change, and our construction
lawyers take particular care to ensure that all members of the construction
litigation team are aware of changes which may affect our clients'
interests.
In
difficult economic times, creditors may find foreclosure the only
practical means to realize on debt. Baker Newby LLP
has helped clients weather economic storms since 1937. We have acted
for chartered banks and a variety of financial institutions in foreclosure
work. Our Collections Department is able to efficiently advance both
routine foreclosures and contested matters. With our offices throughout
the Fraser Valley and Vancouver, we are able to represent clients'
interests in the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Chilliwack,
thus avoiding the significant expense of travel time so often associated
with foreclosure applications in Chambers.
